You can use Sober Living Companion three ways, all with the same login:
Sign in with the email and password you created when you signed up.
Sign up at soberlivingcompanion.com/start. It's a flat $60/month for unlimited houses and unlimited residents β and the resident app is always free. Use code FIRSTMONTHFREE at checkout to get your first month free. You can cancel anytime.
The Dashboard is your at-a-glance view: total members, rent collected this month, outstanding balances, pending agreements, UA flags, pass requests, and an Occupancy & beds panel showing who's in each house and which beds are open.
The owner is whoever created the account. House managers can do almost everything β manage residents, forms, UAs, payments, agreements β but they can't see billing or set up Stripe. Managers are free; add as many as you need.
Go to Account / Settings β Houses β β Add a house, give it a name, and Create. Each house gets its own join code and its own roster. Run as many houses as you like β it's all included.
Under Settings β Houses, tap a house to expand it and enter its Bed capacity. This powers the Occupancy panel on your Dashboard.
In Settings β House managers β β Add house manager (free). Enter their name, email, and phone. We create their login and show you a one-time temporary password to share β they'll set their own on first sign-in. They also get a welcome email.
Right after you create a manager, we ask which house(s) they should manage. You can change it anytime under Settings β Houses β open a house and check the managers who run it. Owners can even assign themselves as a house manager.
Yes β the "Add house manager" option works on both the web dashboard and the mobile app.
Open the Members tab β Add member. Enter their name, which house they're in, their rent, and contact info. You can also just share a join code and let them add themselves.
Each house has its own join code, and there's a master join code for your whole account (shown at the top of the Members tab). A resident downloads the free app, enters the code, and is instantly connected to your home. When they use a house code (or you send a personal invite), they're placed in the right house automatically.
When you add a member with their email, we can send them an app invite carrying their personal join code β that links them to their exact record so their agreements and forms follow them. This avoids duplicate records.
On the Members tab, use the house filter chips (All houses / each house) to see just that home's residents. Managers assigned to a house see only their house's residents.
Open the resident's profile β Bed & intake. Pick a different house, set their bed/room label, and set their move-in (intake) date.
On the resident's profile, scroll to Status. You can mark them Discharged (with a discharge date) or readmit them to In Care. Their sober-day count and personal data stay with them.
Yes. You can import a CSV of your current clients β great for switching from Sobriety Hub or One Step. Send us your export and we'll help you get set up; often the same day. Call (213) 321-6518.
Open the record you want to keep β Status section β Merge a duplicate into this member. It moves the other record's login and data over, then removes the duplicate.
Go to Settings β Payments (owner only). Tap Set up payments to create a new Stripe account, and follow the short onboarding. Funds go straight to your bank; residents' payments are 100% yours.
Yes. In Settings β Payments, tap "π I already have Stripe β connect it" and sign in to your existing Stripe account. No need to create a new one.
In Settings β CashApp & Zelle, enter your CashApp tag and Zelle email/phone, then Save. Residents will see these on their Pay screen as ways to pay you directly.
Open the resident's profile and set their monthly rent and due day. This drives their balance and your Dashboard's Collected/Outstanding totals.
On the resident's profile, use Record payment β choose the amount and method (cash, CashApp, Zelle, Venmo, card). Their balance updates immediately.
The Payments tab shows your whole house β who's paid, who's due, totals for the month, and lets you record payments. You can export payments (including for QuickBooks).
Residents pay right from their app with Stripe (one-time or recurring auto-pay), or see your CashApp/Zelle. You can also share a payment link so a loved one can cover a resident's fee β the payment still credits the resident.
It's a code new homes can enter at checkout to make their first month free ($0), then it bills the normal $60/month. A card is collected up front but not charged until month two, and you can cancel anytime before then.
Go to the Forms tab β βοΈ Write agreement. Type it in, or paste your existing agreement straight from Word. Format the text, and drop in Signature, Initials, Date, Text, Number, Phone, Email, or Checkbox fields wherever you need them β the resident fills and signs those in place. Save it as a reusable template and/or send it to residents.
On a resident's profile, in the Forms & Agreements card, tap π Upload agreement. Add a PDF or photo, name it, and send. The resident reviews and e-signs it on their phone. Multi-page PDFs are shown page-by-page, and you can place signature fields on each page.
In the Forms & Agreements card, tap β Send a form and choose a ready-made template β guest agreement, intake, head of house, write-up, house terms β and Send as-is or Edit first.
From the form picker, choose Build a custom form. Add questions with field types (text, long text, phone, address, date, yes/no, number, SSN last-4, initials, headings), mark any as required, and optionally save it as a reusable template.
Yes β residents review and e-sign right on their phone, no paper or printer. Each signed document is saved with a timestamp and IP address for verification, and signed paperwork is kept forever.
In the "Choose a form" picker, tap π Archive on any ready-made or custom template to hide it and keep the list clean. Tap βΈ View archived templates at the bottom, then β©οΈ Restore to bring one back. Archiving is account-wide, and any owner or manager can archive or restore.
They stay on the resident's profile. To keep it tidy, signed items tuck behind a "View signed forms" / "View signed agreements" button β tap to expand. Only pending items show up top so you can see what still needs action.
Write agreement (Forms tab) is for typing or pasting text and building a reusable template. Upload agreement (on a member's profile) is for sending an existing PDF or photo to sign.
On the resident's profile, at the bottom in the Documents section, tap β Add a document to upload a PDF, Word doc, or photo/scan. Residents can view their own documents too.
In the Documents section, tap βΈ View documents to expand the list, then tap any document to open it. Long-press to delete.
On the resident's profile, under UA / drug tests, tap β Log a UA result. Pick the test date and result (negative, positive, refused, pending). For positives, add the substances detected; add notes if you like.
Positive/refused results roll up to the UA flags count on your Dashboard so you can spot issues fast. Each resident's full UA history is on their profile.
Residents check in for curfew from their phone, verified by GPS location, so you have a record of who's home on time.
Residents can request overnight or multi-day passes, and pass requests show on your Dashboard for you to approve.
Set each house's bed capacity and each resident's bed/room label. The Dashboard's Occupancy & beds panel then shows who's in which bed and how many are open per house.
The Meetings tab lists AA, NA, SMART, and Dharma meetings β online and local. AA online (via the Online Intergroup) runs 24/7, so there's almost always one starting soon. Residents can add a meeting to their calendar.
Residents check in at a meeting from the app (GPS-verified). Their check-ins appear on their profile under Meeting check-ins, so you can confirm attendance and export it (handy for parole/probation officers).
On a resident's profile you can add staff-only notes for care coordination (residents don't see these). Every note shows who wrote it (Owner/Manager + their real name) and the date, so your whole team knows what came from whom.
On a resident's profile, use Chores & tasks to assign items. Tasks and notes notify the resident's care team so everyone stays in the loop.
Residents get a free app to: track their sober-day count, find and check in to meetings, review and e-sign any forms/agreements you send, pay rent (Stripe/CashApp/Zelle), do a Nightly Review, view their documents, and message your team.
A short end-of-day reflection for residents, with an optional reminder they can set for themselves (e.g., 9:00 PM).
Yes β residents can reach help fast from the app. It's designed so support is one tap away in a crisis.
A flat $60/month for your whole home β unlimited houses and unlimited residents, no add-on fees ever. The resident app is free. Because we're a non-profit, your membership is tax-deductible.
In Settings β Notifications, toggle Resident activity alerts. These are off by default β turn it on to get a push when residents check in at meetings or report a payment. SOS and resident messages always come through.
In Settings β Your account, update your name (shown to your team and residents) or change your password.
Manage your subscription from the web dashboard at soberlivingcompanion.com (owner only). You can cancel anytime.
